Pikotaro uploaded PPAP in August. Early celebrity shares and user covers preceded 9GAG's Facebook repost and Bieber's September tweet. Digital release followed; PPAP topped Japan's Hot 100 and reached No. 77 in the US, earning a shortest-song record.
